YOU ASKED . . . WE LISTENED and DELIVERED!
You wanted higher speed access to the Internet; we heard you and we now offer it!
Welcome to Kentucky-in-Touch's STRAIGHT TALK DSL! With all of the technobabble on the Internet and in the news these days, it's easy to get confused about the different types of Internet connectivity available, and to make a decision about which one is right for you. DSL is one of the most popular - and affordable - HIGH SPEED accesses available. We'll try to make it very easy to understand what DSL is all about and help you determine whether or not it's right for you.
First, here's a simple explanation of the technology behind this type of connection. DSL is an acronym for Digital Subscriber Line which is a data communications technology that is making high-speed bandwidth a reality. DSL is an always-on Internet connection that works over a regular telephone line which has been "conditioned" to carry voice and data simultaneously. That means that if you have DSL access to the Internet and your phone rings while you're online, you can answer the phone and not lose your connection to the Internet.
How can this happen? DSL operates using different sets of frequencies, with voice at the lower frequencies and data transmisison at the higher frequencies. For the most common DSL, the two can co-exist on the same wire. When you're talking on the phone, you'll be unable to hear the high frequencies and the DSL signal should not be disturbed by the lower voice frequencies you use when talking on the phone. So, you can be reading email online while carrying on a conversation with your mother - or mother-in-law - at the same time on the same line. Cool, eh??
Connection speed, reliability, and the 'always-on' nature of DSL, are the main reasons it is so popular. For small businesses, DSL is also a great way to save money compared to paying for multiple dialups, or pay per minute ISDN service, dedicated frame access or expensive T1 lines.
On our Frequently Asked Questions page, we have attempted to address the majority of the questions we're asked by customers who are interested in switching from dialup to DSL connectivity.
